At the 23rd Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards, Jared Leto, best known as the frontman for 30 Seconds to Mars and for his roles in films such as Fight Club (1998), American Psycho (2000), Requiem for a Dream (2000), and Dallas Buyers Club (2013), had this to say on the importance of independent films:

“It’s incredibly important. These are the films that changed my life, independent film. And it’s great to celebrate independent film. I think it’s really wonderful. It’s important. I don’t thumb my nose at these things at all. I think it’s a really good thing to celebrate each other.”
