When John was first approached by the White House to write, direct, and produce the reenactment of Melisha’s rescue, he refused. It wasn’t until they came back to him with an offer for the lead role and a percentage-of-profits deal that he finally agreed. Unfortunately for John he financed the film and it made minus $10.00 in revenue (the one person who bought a ticket forcefully demanded a full refund plus $10 for lost opportunity costs). Eventually John’s house was repossessed, his wife left him for the actor who played the Handsome Habsburg Prince, and his 3 illegitimate children disowned him.
